Apple’s Servers Having Problems With Amount Of Downloads
According to the San Francisco Chronicle Article, todays launch of the new iPhone 3G and new software for previous models had some problems. Apparently, Apple’s servers for activating new iPhones and downloading software to update original iPhone devices crashed due to the high volume of traffic. This caused problems for people trying to activate their phones in stores, as per policy. Some customers with original iPhones were stuck with non working devices due to problems with the upgrade process. AT&T wound up having customers just take their new 3G iPhones home to activate them later. The iPhone was launched today not only in the US, but also 21 other countries around the world. The US was the only country that got the original iPhone at launch time, so this time launch day was much more hectic for Apple’s servers. Customers from all over the world were trying to activate their devices at the same time and Apple’s servers apparently couldn’t keep up.
