Apple announces iPhone 3G S

Apple has recently announced the newest iteration of its highly acclaimed iPhone cellular handset. The newest version, dubbed the iPhone 3G S, is faster and more feature packed than previous models. The ‘S’ in the device’s name stands for speed, as this is the fastest iPhone ever. Other major enhancements include better battery life, a 3 megapixel autofocus video enabled camera, and a compass feature. The compass may not seem very significant, but it enables the iPhone to know which way you are headed and adjust the screen automatically. It also allows the new iPhone 3G S to give users instant turn by turn navigation. There are also voice control features that allow you to control your iPhone 3G S by simply using your voice. But one of the coolest new features packed into the all new iPhone 3G S is something called “Find My iPhone.” This will allow you to find a lost iPhone and locate it on a map. You can also choose to send a message to appear on the iPhone’s screen, or play a sound to help you find it - even if your phone is set to silent. And if you still can’t find your iPhone, you can opt to erase all the important data and other content stored on it with the new Remote Wipe feature. And if you do find it again, you can simply plug it into your computer and the iPhone will download all the data again from iTunes. The pricing for the new iPhone 3G S will be $199 for a 16 GB version, and $299 for a 32 GB version. Apple has also announced that they will be dropping the prices of the current version of the iPhone, iPhone 3G to $99 for the 8 GB version.

Wordpress iPhone App

So I just downloaded the wordpress application for the iPhone and this is my first post using the app. It seems pretty cool and let’s you quickly make a post to any wordpress blog, whether it’s hosted by wordpress (example.wordpress.com) or hosted by a webhost on your own domain (example.com). Even though I really like the app and can forsee using it frequently, I feel that it could be much better by adding more features. All you can really do is login to your wordpress blog and write posts. I would like to see support for plugins and configuration of your blog via the app. For example I wish you could edit links, pages, and configuration options straight from the iPhone app instead of only adding and editing posts. Hopefully future versions of the wordpress app for the iPhone will have more features but for now it fills the gap.

Apple Announces iPhone 3G AC Power Adapter Recall

Today, Apple announced that it is voluntarily recalling the AC power adapter plug that originally came with the iPhone 3G sold in certain countries.  The power adapter, that plugs into the wall to allow the user to charge the iPhone, can break leaving the metal prongs stuck in the socket, creating a potential hazard.  No injuries have been reported, but using the power adapter could lead to a potential electrical shock.  iPhone 3G owners can get a replacement unit free of charge, by either returning it to a Apple retail store, or by signing up online and sending it in for a replacement.  Users are urged to not use the product in question until a replacement has been received.  For more information, visit the official site from Apple regarding the recall.

iPhone Still in Short Supply

According to this San Francisco Gate Article, many Apple stores and AT&T retail outlets are still having problems keeping the 3G iPhone in stock, more than a month after the initial launch of the device. High demand, availability in 22 countries, as well as the fact that the 3G iPhone can’t be purchased online were factors leading to the shortage of units. It has been estimated that over 2.5 million 3 G iPhones will be sold by year’s end. The shortage may finally ease once the iPhone 3G devices begin selling in Best Buy stores in September.
