Apple Announces iPhone 3G AC Power Adapter Recall
Today, Apple announced that it is voluntarily recalling the AC power adapter plug that originally came with the iPhone 3G sold in certain countries. The power adapter, that plugs into the wall to allow the user to charge the iPhone, can break leaving the metal prongs stuck in the socket, creating a potential hazard. No injuries have been reported, but using the power adapter could lead to a potential electrical shock. iPhone 3G owners can get a replacement unit free of charge, by either returning it to a Apple retail store, or by signing up online and sending it in for a replacement. Apple Announces New iPod 2G Classic Model
Apple has released a new version of its iPod Classic. Now it is only available in two colors with only one available hard drive size - 120 GB. The new iPod Classic model will offer many new features including voice recording, and a slick new user interface.
Apple announces iTunes 8 and new iPods
Today Steve Jobs announced that Apple will release version 8 of iTunes, their popular music software, along with two new iPod models, the iPod Nano and the iPod Touch. All of the new products offer what is called the Genius feature, which allows users to create playlists of similar sounding music in their own library, and also suggests new music in the iTunes Music Store. iTunes 8 is now available as a free download from the Apple website.
The new iPod Nano has a larger screen and a sleeker design than before, is available in nine different colors, and also has an accelerometer built in. An accelerometer is the sensors that are inside the iPod Touch and iPhone devices that allows the device to know how it is being moved and what orientation the screen should be in. So if you turn the device on its side, it will know and the screen will change accordingly. Or if you shake the device, it will go into shuffle mode. This new model of the iPod Nano is a much sleeker design than previous models, with a curved shape that fits better in your hand. The new iPod Nano will be priced at $149 for the 8GB version and $199 for the 16 GB version. Both models will be available in all colors, which include silver, black, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and pink.
Also announced by Steve Jobs today is the new iPod Touch. The new model of the iPod Touch is sleeker and lighter than the previous models. Pricing will be $229 for the 8 GB version, $299 for the 16 GB version, and $399 for the 32 GB version.

iPhone Still in Short Supply
According to this San Francisco Gate Article, many Apple stores and AT&T retail outlets are still having problems keeping the 3G iPhone in stock, more than a month after the initial launch of the device. High demand, availability in 22 countries, as well as the fact that the 3G iPhone can’t be purchased online were factors leading to the shortage of units. It has been estimated that over 2.5 million 3 G iPhones will be sold by year’s end. The shortage may finally ease once the iPhone 3G devices begin selling in Best Buy stores in September.
