Apple announces iPhone 3G S

Apple has recently announced the newest iteration of its highly acclaimed iPhone cellular handset. The newest version, dubbed the iPhone 3G S, is faster and more feature packed than previous models. The ‘S’ in the device’s name stands for speed, as this is the fastest iPhone ever. Other major enhancements include better battery life, a 3 megapixel autofocus video enabled camera, and a compass feature. The compass may not seem very significant, but it enables the iPhone to know which way you are headed and adjust the screen automatically. It also allows the new iPhone 3G S to give users instant turn by turn navigation. There are also voice control features that allow you to control your iPhone 3G S by simply using your voice. But one of the coolest new features packed into the all new iPhone 3G S is something called “Find My iPhone.” This will allow you to find a lost iPhone and locate it on a map. You can also choose to send a message to appear on the iPhone’s screen, or play a sound to help you find it - even if your phone is set to silent. And if you still can’t find your iPhone, you can opt to erase all the important data and other content stored on it with the new Remote Wipe feature. And if you do find it again, you can simply plug it into your computer and the iPhone will download all the data again from iTunes. The pricing for the new iPhone 3G S will be $199 for a 16 GB version, and $299 for a 32 GB version. Apple has also announced that they will be dropping the prices of the current version of the iPhone, iPhone 3G to $99 for the 8 GB version.

Pocket Tunes App Review

There are many applications that offer streaming music and online radio stations, so what makes Pocket Tunes any differnt? Well there are a lot of things. Pocket Tunes allows you to listen to just about any online radio source and save then all in one place for easy access via the sleek easy to use interface. With this app you can listen to any of the included channels or listen to any other online stream if you know the URL. But most people will be content with the large amount of available streams to listen to. With a huge amount of categories each filled with a large number of stations, I’ve only sampled a small amount of available channels but found a lot that I’ve been interested in. With a whole bunch if streams I’ve never even got to test yet, I could see how the app could keep your interest piqued for a long time.

All of this is well and good but, but one of the best features in this program, one that I for one have been waitinig for since the iPhone launched, is the access to Sirius and XM online streams. With pocket tunes and a valid Sirius or XM online streming account, can listen to your XM or Sirius channels on your iPhone. This means all channels that you have access to stream on your computer you can now access on your iPhone. None of the channels are blocked like with the official Sirius XM app! That means all the music, as well as talk, comedy, and yes even the Howard Stern channels, all the channels that Sirius offers online you can listen to using Pocket Tunes. And you cab use any streming account that you have, you don’t need the premium account to listen like with the official Sirius XM app! For a Sirius subscriber and fan of the original content that can only be found with there service, the Pocket Tunes app is one of the best releases on the app store so far!!

Jackie the Jokeman’s Joke Button

For those who don’t know, Jackie the Jokeman Martling was the head writer and sidekick of the Howard Stern Radio Show during the 90’s. Well now Jackie is back- in app form! That’s right with the new Jackie the Jokeman iPhone app, you can bring the hilarity of the Jokeman with you anywhere. The app features tons of hilarous jokes and crazy sounds for you to amuse or annoy your friends. There are many different categories of jokes to choose from, or you can opt to play a random joke. The interface is customizable so you can pick your favorite jokes or sounds at the press of a button. Perhaps the best feature of the app is the fact that the author has promised to release new content periodically for free. Once you pay the one time purchase price of $0.99, all future updates will be free.

Of course there are many things that this app leaves to be desired. Such as the amount of content that is currently available. After playing with the app for a few minutes you start to hear the same jokes and noises again and again. Also the jokes are all very sanitized to comply with the iTunes store rules. If you are familiar with Jackie’s material then you know that dirty, off color material is his forte. But Jackie has been quoted as saying that the app will feature more adult material as soon as Apple puts age restrictions into place for the app store. So hopefully when Jackie is finally allowed to unleash his dirtier side, what is now a bit of fun for a dollar will hopefully become even better in the future..

Wordpress iPhone App

So I just downloaded the wordpress application for the iPhone and this is my first post using the app. It seems pretty cool and let’s you quickly make a post to any wordpress blog, whether it’s hosted by wordpress (example.wordpress.com) or hosted by a webhost on your own domain (example.com). Even though I really like the app and can forsee using it frequently, I feel that it could be much better by adding more features. All you can really do is login to your wordpress blog and write posts. I would like to see support for plugins and configuration of your blog via the app. For example I wish you could edit links, pages, and configuration options straight from the iPhone app instead of only adding and editing posts. Hopefully future versions of the wordpress app for the iPhone will have more features but for now it fills the gap.
